The refurbishment of Tulagi Market, Central Province, Solomon Islands, demonstrates how quality, inclusive infrastructure can be delivered to standards development partners require, when combined with local industry capacity development activities across the infrastructure life cycle - from tendering, contracting and through construction. This case study follows three complementary strategies SIIP has used with the locally-appointed contractor during the project:
1. industry training
2. maximising local procurement opportunities
3. on-the-job mentoring.
The result has built local capacity, at the same time as delivering a quality infrastructure project.
