SIIP is redeveloping provincial markets for local economic development.

SIIP’s Provincial Markets Project will build or upgrade at least ten markets - focusing on sub-stations in each province to bring local economic impact. The project was approved by SIIP’s joint Solomon Islands-Australia Steering Committee in March 2022.

SIIP’s technical team is now visiting Buala, Malu’u and Seghe to gather information about current markets, talk with government and community, and assess what improvements are possible. The Steering Committee will review these recommendations for final decision-making. Locations in Guadalcanal, Honiara and other provinces will also be identified.

Inclusive design process

1. SCOPING PHASE

   SIIP Technical Team visits each location and talks with provincial government, vendors and community. Gathers information for market redevelopment options.

2. REVIEW PHASE

   SIIP Steering Committee reviews technical recommendations and makes final redevelopment decision.

3. DESIGN PHASE

   Including required site visits and consultation.

4. CONSTRUCTION PHASE

   Construction and delivery of market redevelopment.
